Stuffed Jack-O-Lantern Bell Peppers

Get in the Halloween spirit with these Stuffed Jack-O-Lantern Bell Peppers! These are one food your little ones will have fun eating.

Here's what you'll need:

6 bell peppers, any color
1 pound ground beef
1 egg
4 slices whole wheat bread, cubed
1 small onion, chopped
1 small tomato, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup chili sauce
1/4 cup prepared yellow mustard
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Directions:



1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease an 8x8 inch baking dish.
2. Lightly mix together the ground beef, egg, bread cubes, onion, tomato, garlic, chili sauce, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
3. Wash the peppers, and cut jack-o'-lantern faces into the peppers with a sharp paring knife, making triangle eyes and noses, and pointy-teeth. Slice off the tops of the peppers, and scoop out the seeds and cores. Stuff the peppers lightly with the beef stuffing, and place them into the prepared baking dish so they lean against each other.
4. Bake in the preheated oven until the peppers are tender and the stuffing is cooked through and juicy (approximately one hour). Enjoy!

Toyota Awards Scholarships to 20 Asian Pacific Islander Students from Southern California.

TORRANCE, Calif. (May 8, 2013) – Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc. awarded scholarships to 20 Asian Pacific Islander American (APIA) students from the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) disciplines at its second annual awards dinner and reception at the Toyota Automotive Museum on Tuesday, May 7, 2013.  The scholarships were given in partnership with the Asian Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF).

The scholarships provide recipients with $2,500 towards a degree in a STEM field. These 20 selected students trace their heritage to seven different countries in the Asia Pacific Island (API) region, including China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Taiwan, Cambodia, Korea and Pakistan.  Students were also awarded a proclamation from their respective local governmental officials.

The focus on Asian Pacific Islander American (APIA) students originates from their need of resources to access higher education, which serves as a foundation for their future success and contributions to a stronger America.  The students heard about the program through APIASF, “the nation’s largest 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides college scholarships to” APIAs.  They were encouraged to apply to the program by school and college counselors.

With intended majors ranging from biomedical sciences to electrical engineering and school selections from UCLA to Cal Poly Pomona, students were thankful for the scholarships while already expressing desires to give back to their communities.

Scholarship recipient Jose Rabaino from Carson Senior High School said, “With the scholarship, it is very likely I will be able to go to” the college of my choice. “The [Toyota/APIASF] Scholarship will help me achieve my life goals and dreams. For that, I am extremely thankful.”  He plans to study computer science.

TMS Group Vice President and CFO Tracey Doi also attended the event.  Doi is an advocate of Toyota Asian American Society in Alliance (TAASiA), an employee resource group that represents the diverse Asian American cultures and heritages within Toyota and the community.

"Our twenty extraordinary scholars were selected from a pool of over 7,200 applicants,” said Doi.  “Toyota is proud to celebrate their outstanding academic achievements and community service.   Clearly these scholars demonstrate the drive, passion and courage to become our next generation of leaders."

In addition to Doi, Toyota Vice Presidents Karen Ideno, Wei Shi, and Alok Vaish participated in a panel reflecting upon “What I would tell my younger self?" These top executives are well-positioned to provide insight to the young scholars as TAASiA continuously leverages the strength of a growing population within Toyota to foster an environment and corporate culture of diversity and inclusion.

The Toyota GT 86 TRD, Nissan GT-R Track Edition, Appeared at the Chicago Auto Show.

Toyota has teamed up with its in-house tuning division, TRD, to make a hot version of the GT 86, or Subaru BRZ/Scion FR-S as it's sold here. But the TRD version won't be sold here. But don't get too angry: it's still not supercharged or turbocharged; it's just fitted with some racier bodywork and a high-flow exhaust.

The 2014 Nissan GT-R Track Edition follows a similar path, but actually cuts weight by deleting the rear seat, and improves lap times (if only slightly) with a firmer, more track-tuned suspension.

Toyota ME.WE electric car concept; Green from the wheels up!

The Toyota ME.WE isn't your typical Toyota concept car.

In fact, were it not for the word Toyota appearing at the top of this page, you might have assumed the quirky little electric car was from another maker entirely.

Toyota's concepts are often a lot more edgy and futuristic looking, like its Shanghai Auto Show exhibits. By contrast, the ME.WE's boxy proportions, earthy color scheme and simplistic interior appear to hark back to European beach cars of the 1960s, like the Mini Moke and Fiat Jolly.

There is, of course, more to the ME.WE than meets the eye. It's as high-tech as any other Toyota concept, and almost certainly greener too.

It starts with the electric powertrain, using in-wheel motors borrowed from the Toyota i-Road concept, and under-floor batteries as seen in the Toyota and Scion iQ EV models.

With a motor for each wheel, the ME.WE offers the option of two or four-wheel-drive, when required--without the weight penalty such a system would usually demand. Lack of any intrusive drivetrain elements also allows more of the car's volume to be used for interior space.

The tubular aluminum structure and polypropylene panels keep weight to a minimum--just 1,653 pounds, only 31 lbs of which are the body panels.
